Sotheby`s to auction Soutine`s major works
Two of the most famous works by Russian-born impressionist artist Chaim Soutine are up for sale at Sotheby`s and are expected to make around $13 million.
ґThe auction house will sell the paintings from the collection of Theodore J. Forstmann, a legendary American financier and philanthropist within the Impressionist and Modern Art Sale scheduled for May 2.
"Le Chasseur De Chez Maxim`s" depicting an anonymous man dressed in a bright red suit and cap is expected to sell for $6.7 million and is considered the artist`s most striking painting. The second work, Soutine`s "Le Chasseur" portraying a young boy in a black suit is expected to fetch between $4 million and $6 million.
Both were painted in Paris in the 1920s, the most productive period in the creative career of the Jewish artist.
Sotheby`s upcoming sale will see another headliner - Pablo Picasso`s "Femme Assise Dans Un Fauteuil," a portrait of his lover and muse. The painting is expected to sell for $20 million - $30 million.
